Wedding Songs 101

22 October 2010

The ultimate how-to guide on choosing the perfect songs for your wedding day.

Music is an integral part of any celebration. When it comes to weddings, music and more specifically wedding song choice, can be used to create and emphasise those perfect moments throughout your special day. We’ve asked entertainment experts, Funkified Entertainment to share their tips for choosing the perfect wedding songs.

Funkfied Entertainment’s Top 5 Tips

Consider your theme Keep your wedding theme in the back of your mind when choosing your wedding songs. The songs you opt for should tie in with the general theme for your wedding day.

Always, always listen to the lyrics There's nothing worse than realising your wedding song isn’t what you initially thought it was about for example if you're in the middle of your bridal waltz that Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" is about a break up! Similarly, "Isn't She Lovely" was written by Stevie Wonder about his daughter....save it for the dance with dad!

Remember Golden Oldies
Think back to your childhood. Sentimental songs can encourage sentimental moments. Allow your wedding day and wedding songs to flourish with nostalgic bliss.

Ask the alumni Don’t be afraid to bombard your married friends with questions. Previous brides are the experts. Use their feedback to avoid repeating their mistakes.

Make it personal Sit down with your partner and discuss potential wedding songs that have impacted your relationship. Personalising your playlist in this way will add a unique quality to your day and express your love for each other to your friends and family.
